Testing NavCoin Products

Overview

Testing is a critical part of open source software - particularly in crypto where there is a financial incentive for people to try attack the network. Testing can help identify any bugs, and improve the overall user experience. And you don’t have to be a developer to help test NavCoin! Anyone can download the latest ‘release candidate wallet’ and give their feedback via GitHub.

“Testing shouldn’t sound scary at all, if you are not into the programming space, you can do very well in testing as a user just the same! There are lots of digital products and software built by the active NavCoin community, tell us how you feel about using a certain product, what may have confused you and what would you suggest to improve!”

Here is what you can help

Add Your Ideas

If you have any suggestions you'd like to add you can contribute to this site through GitHub.

Unit testing

If you’re familiar with programming, you can help with the creation of unit test. These are critical to NavCoin, and help speed up the workflow for new releases. Unit testing is the creation of automated tests that run to test specific functions. The aim is that when you make changes to any part of the code, you can see if it breaks any of the unit tests, which makes it much easier to ensure the software is doing what it should, and decreases the chance of any unexpected bugs.

Core wallet testing

Test new features in the most stable pre-release build, and give feedback to help ensure it the software is stable and working as it should. If you found any problems, make a GitHub issue or contact project owner, and try to describe the problem as detailed as possible.

Community Project

There are a number of different community projects being worked on, and the more people helping each other out the better. Download and use the software, try a few different tasks, and write down your feedback. Think about what makes you confused, which parts are broken, and what could be made easier. Some NavCoin projects are built in peoples spare time and published before they are completely polished, so user feedback will always be valued.

UX/Usability testing

If you are building a big project, you can first create a paper prototype or wireframe to show how each screen are connected, so people can visualize the project, get back some feedback.this is a great way to improve the visibility and user experience so the end product will enable user to find info quickly and . The key measure of success is reducing the number error and time spent on a certain. will discover early whenever you have serious disconnect with the users.
